Youth Alliance for Change Kenya (YACK) was founded in 2012 by a group of sexual and gender minority individuals in response to the discrimination and lack of access to essential services they faced. Based in Up-country Kenya, with a focus on Nyanza Province and four surrounding counties, YACK is a youth-led Non-State Community Based Organization (CBO) dedicated to defending the rights of vulnerable rural LGBTQ communities.
We lead the change in attaining legal health, wellbeing, and safety for sexual and gender minorities. Our focus areas include HIV prevention, mental health, and sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR) treatments. Through community-driven initiatives, we challenge oppression norms and promote inclusion, tolerance, and diversity.
We envisions fighting against pandemic, injustices and building a healthier and more equitable world which values and respects differences regardless of diversity, race, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexuality, gender, bodily, disability of identity circumstances.
Expand and improve the implementation of effective prevention interventions, including treatment as prevention, PrEP, PEP, and SSPs. Develop new options for the LGBTQ community. Increase the capacity of healthcare delivery systems, public health, and the health workforce to prevent and diagnose HIV among LGBTQ individuals. Diagnose LGBTQ individuals with HIV as early as possible and promptly link them to care and treatment.
Provides training for policymakers and other stakeholders to mitigate the effects of stigma related to Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression (SOGIES). It aims to increase the provision of and access to social services and assesses changes in knowledge, attitudes, and behavioral intentions of VCAT participants from the LGBTQ community.
This initiative focuses on determining the extent to which we support advocacy that is intersectional and includes the lived realities of those most pushed to the margins, including LGBTIQ individuals. It aims to track the growing base of supporters of LGBTQ rights who use their influence to impact policy.
This is an emerging evidence and good practice cyclical process in which LGBTIQ individuals affected by health inequities, particularly in HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and malaria, systematically monitor services, analyze collected data, and conduct evidence-driven advocacy to improve service delivery. It generates solutions and creates an enabling environment for their well-being, done in collaboration with key cohort partners as part of the community-led response and practices.
