Social Justice and Legal Aid Agency Project

Projects Vision

To create a more just, inclusive, and equitable society in Kenya, where LGBTQ individuals can live openly and authentically, free from discrimination and violence, and where their rights and dignity are respected and protected by law and society.

Projects Objective

This program aims to address systemic, physical, economic, and social justice violence and discrimination against sexual and gender minorities (SOGIES) in Kenya. Through community-led initiatives, legal advocacy, and public awareness campaigns, the program seeks to empower LGBTQ individuals, improve their safety and well-being, and promote greater acceptance and inclusion within society. Key components include providing legal aid services, establishing safe spaces, advocating for policy change, challenging discriminatory laws, fostering interfaith dialogue, and building alliances with other social justice movements. By addressing the root causes of discrimination and violence, the program aims to create a more just and equitable society where LGBTQ individuals can live authentically and free from fear of persecution.

Impact

Success in these areas might be measured through a combination of qualitative and quantitative indicators, including:

  • Reduction in reports of violence and discrimination against LGBTQ individuals.
  • Increased utilization of legal aid and support services by LGBTQ individuals.
  • Changes in laws and policies that promote equality and protection for LGBTQ individuals.
  • Surveys or studies documenting shifts in societal attitudes towards LGBTQ individuals.
  • Increased visibility and support for LGBTQ rights within religious communities.
