Sexual Reproductive Health & Rights (SRHR) Project

Projects Vision

The vision of the SRHR project within the Pro-Choice Movement is to create a society where individuals, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, have comprehensive access to sexual and reproductive health services and rights. This vision encompasses the promotion of inclusive SRHR frameworks that affirm the reproductive choices of LGBTQ individuals, reduce complications associated with HIV, and address the intersectional impacts of psychological trauma, physical, economic, and social justice violence, and discrimination.

Projects Objective

The objectives of the Sexual Reproductive Health & Rights (SRHR) project within the Pro-Choice Movement encompass several key areas aimed at advancing comprehensive access to sexual and reproductive health services and rights for LGBTQ individuals. Firstly, the project seeks to advocate for the inclusion of LGBTQ-affirming SRHR components within policy frameworks, ensuring that reproductive choices are respected and accessible to all individuals, irrespective of sexual orientation or gender identity. Additionally, it aims to address the reduction of complications and mental distress associated with HIV positivity by providing comprehensive support services, including psychological counseling, healthcare access, and economic empowerment initiatives. The project also endeavors to engage in policy-focused campaigning and budgeting efforts, leveraging data-driven research, litigation, and media campaigns to prioritize SRHR issues and foster coordination with other social justice movements, including faith-based and sexual reproductive health and rights organizations. Furthermore, the project aims to utilize Pleasure-Based Sexual Empowerment (PBSE) approaches and comprehensive SRHR education to challenge stigma, address gender stereotypes, and promote a positive and empowering understanding of sexual and reproductive health and rights among LGBTQ individuals and broader society. Through these objectives, the project aspires to catalyze systemic change, enhance access to SRHR services, reduce stigma, and foster a more inclusive and accepting environment for LGBTQ individuals.

Impact

Success in these areas might be measured through a combination of qualitative and quantitative indicators, including:

  • Improved access to comprehensive SRHR services for LGBTQ individuals.
  • Better health outcomes and reduced stigma associated with HIV-related complications.
  • Policy changes and budget allocations prioritize LGBTQ-affirming SRHR initiatives.
  • Advocacy and education challenge stereotypes and promote positive understanding of sexual and reproductive health.
